Bruno Lucchesi is a famous figurative sculptor, you can see some of his work on his website.
Bruno Lucchesi est un célèbre sculpteur figuratif, vous pouvez voir certaines de ses pièces sur son site internet.

He wrote this book in 1980, it’s a precise step-by-step of the sculpture of a woman from the skeleton from adding the muscles to the skin.
It’s a precise guide for sculptors and especially beginners which explains how to build a realistic anatomy with no shortcuts.
Il a écrit ce livre en 1980, c’est un compte-rendu détaillé de la sculpture d’une femme en partant du squelette puis en ajoutant les muscles et la peau. C’est un guide pour les sculpteurs, spécialement les débutants, qui explique comment construire une anatomie réaliste sans raccourcis.

It’s simply a masterclass for all sculptors, the only thing i regret is the poor quality of some pictures.
I suggest you all to find a copy of this book.
C’est réellement un indispensable pour tout sculpteur. mon seul regret est que les photos sont parfois de qualité moyenne.

Book of the week #3 : Modeling stories in miniature

This book is written by the Cursed Monkeys. Who are these guys ? They’re a group of friends who like sculpting, converting and painting miniatures, they have this very nice blog where you can see their works, a lot of tutorials and so much good stuff. A few months ago, they decided to start an indiegogo campaign to finance their very first book.
Ce livre a été écrit par les Cursed Monkey. Qui sont-ils? C’est un groupe d’amis qui aiment sculpter, convertir et peindre des figurines, ils ont cet excellent blog ou vous pouvez voir leurs différents travaux, des tutoriaux et un tout un tas d’autres choses intéressantes. Il y a quelques mois, ils ont décidé de lancer une campagne Indiegogo pour financer leur tout premier livre.

As a backer, I had a lot of goodies :
– a cd-rom with tutorials which are available on the website of the Cursed Monkeys
– a 54 mm figurine for conversion with a few heads ands weapons
– some stickers
– a great booklet where you can find some of their best work
These goodies where exclusive for the backers but it is possible to buy the book which is still available in english and spanish.
Comme j’ai participé à la campagne, j’ai eu droit à un certain nombre de récompenses:

There are eleven chapters in this book :
– 1/ A miniature production which is about the goal of building small dioramas : storytelling.

– 3/ Scene Composition, this one is very interesting and important because it helps you thinking about what you wanna tell in your scene and how to express it.
– 4/ Scenery Building, how to create small worlds with materials, there are goods tricks here
– 5/ Converting figures, two big step-by-step to help you understand how to convert your figures
– 6/ Sculpting with putty, impressive step-by-step of a sculpture of a robot by Piqui using my least favourite modelling paste of all, the evil greenstuff 😉
– 7/ Sculpting with clay, which is about sculpting with clay who hardened once baked, there is a big step-by-step on the scene of the cover of book with the dragon rider and the hiding boy.
– 8/ Faces, Busts and Portraits, i think the title is pretty clear, a lot of step-by-step, tricks to help master the human and not so human face
– 9/ Painting, on the story’s service, how to use colour and light to tell a story
– 10/ Another view of the hobby, personal thinking about the hobby
– 11/ Charon, a different project, there is a complete step-by-step on one very interesting project

– 5/ Converting figures, deux grands pas-à-pas pour vous aider à comprendre comment on peut convertir ses figurines
– 6/ Sculpting with putty, un impressionnant pas-à-pas de la sculpture d’un robot par Piqui qui utilise la pâte que je préfère le moins, le diabolique Greenstuff
– 7/ Sculpting with clay, celui-ci est à propose des pâtes thermo durcissantes, il y a un grand pas-à-pas du diorama de la couverture du liver aver le cavalier à dos de dragon et le garçon qui se cache
– 8/ Faces, Busts and Portraits, Visages, Bustes et Portraits, je crois que le titre est assez clair, beaucoup de pas-à-pas et d’Astuces pour vous aider à maîtriser la création de visages, humains ou non
– 9/ Painting, on the story’s service, comment utiliser la couleur et la lumière pour raconter une histoire
– 10/ Another view of the hobby, une réflexion personnelle sur le hobby
– 11/ Charon, a different project, Il y a un pas-à-pas complet sur un projet très intéressant

I really love this one, I wish there was a book like this one when I started then hobby a looooong time ago, it could have save me a lot of effort and research. It’s really a good balance between theory and examples, they are a lot to learn for a beginner and even for en experienced one.I think it’s simply a must have, there are a few copies left available in english, so you know what you have to do, run for it!
J’aime vraiment ce livre, j’aurai adoré avoir un tel livre lorsque j’ai commencé le hobby il y a déjà bien looooongtemps de ça, j’aurai pu m’épargner beaucoup d’efforts et de recherches. C’est vraiment un bon équilibre entre la théorie et les exemples, il y beaucoup de choses à apprendre pour un débutant mais aussi pour quelqu’un de plus expérimenté. C’est un livre à posséder absolument, il reste seulement quelques exemplaires disponibles en anglais, vous savez ce qu’il vous reste à faire, dépêchez-vous!

Book of the week #2 : Raffaele Picca & Roman Lappat – FIGURE ART!

Raffaele Picca and Roman Lappat are well known as enthusiastic painters and also sculptors, their work is always of great quality and they try to make original compositions and inject some fun and lots of love in everything they do.
They have this great blog, the Massive Voodoo that you must absolutely visit on a regular basis.
Raffaele Picca et Roman Lappat sont réputés comme peintres et sculpteurs, leur travail est toujours synonyme de qualité, ils essayent toujours d’apporter de l’originalité dans leurs compositions et de mettre une touche d’humour dans tout ce qu’ils font.
Ils tiennent un blog vraiment intéressant, Massive Voodoo que tout le monde devrait visiter régulièrement.

The last year, they decided to publish their book with the help of backers. I was one of the backers so i had a few more goodies and my name in the book. The goodies were :
– a very interesting booklet with a lot of tutorials and works in progress (i love that kind of stuff ;))
– Massive Voodoo stickers
– a bookmark
L’année dernière, ils ont décidé de publier leur premier livre aver un financement participatif. J’ai aidé à lever les fonds et comme tous les participants j’ai eu droit à certaines récompenses exclusives en bonus. Les récompenses étaient :
– un livret avec plain de tutorial et des photos de travail en cours (j’adore ça ;))
– des autocollants Massive Voodoo

Well, the goodies were exclusive for the backers but the book is still available.
So what does this book speak about ? It’s a collection of the work of Roman and Raffaele these last few years.
You can seek all kind of miniatures, some slightly converted others heavily converted, fantasy, sic-fi, historical miniatures or personal creations. The paintings are gorgeous and make you want to take your brushes and some painting and get back to your desk to try to experiment!
Malheureusement, les récompenses étaient réservées uniquement pour ceux qui ont financé le livre mais le livre est encore disponible à la vente.
Rentrons maintenant dans le coeur du sujet, il s’agit d’un livre qui reprend une grande partie du travail effectué par Roman et Raffaele ces dernières années. On peut voir toute sorte de figurine, certaines légèrement converties d’autres moins facilement reconnaissables, du fantastique, de la science-fiction, de l’historique ou encore des créations personnelles. Les mises en peintures sont magnifiques et vous donnent envie de prendre vos pinceaux pour essayer de faire aussi des oeuvres!

It’s a very inspiring book because you can see the evolution of their skills and the fact that they never get stuck in a style or a kind of miniatures like so many of us.
C’est un livre très inspirant dans lequel on peut voir l’évolution du talent de Roman et Raffaele et le fait qu’ils ne se limitent jamais à un style de peinture ou à une marque de figurines comme beaucoup d’entre nous.

To summarize, it’s really a great book and i hope your buy it and like it as much as i do!

Book of the week #1 : Pop Sculpture!

Surprisingly this is not a book teaching you how to sculpt, it’s more of a vision and a reflexion on the sculpting job in the entertainment industry.
De manière surprenante, ce livre n’est pas une méthode de sculpture mais plus une vision et une réflexion sur la sculpture dans l’industrie du divertissement.

In fact, you won’t find anything about anatomy but all about the process of sculpting action figures or collectible statues.
D’ailleurs, il n’y a pas de partie sur l’anatomie mais des chapitres qui reprennent le processus de la création d’une figurine de collection.

The book is written by Tim Bruckner and Ruben Procopio who are both veterans of this industry.
Le livre est écrit par Tim Bruckner et Ruben Procopio qui sont des acteurs connus et reconnus de ce milieu.

Just by reading this book, you learn a lot of what it takes to be serious about sculpting, the 1-8 and 12 chapters teach you so many tricks and the text is also easy and funny to read. Chapters 10 and 11 are less important.
Rien qu’en lisant le livre, on apprend une foule de choses sur ce qu’il faut faire pour commencer à sculpter de manière professionnelle, les chapitres 1-8 et 12 regorgent d’astuces tout en restant facile d’accès et amusant. Les chapitres 10 et 11 sont moins intéressants.

I love this book, it’s gorgeous, i have already recommend it too a lot of friends. It’s not a book you can read in a one time, you have to make pauses to assimilate the content.
J’adore ce livre, d’abord il est magnifique, je l’ai déjà recommandé à un grand nombre d’amis. Ce n’est pas un livre qu’on peut lire d’une traite, il faut le lire par petites séances pour bien en assimiler toute la richesse.
